The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations in Yemen “YCMHRV” (RASD Coalition), a member of the Justice4Yemen Pact, held a mock trial session for perpetrators of violations of sexual violence and child recruitment during the conflict in Yemen on Saturday, July 20, 2024, within the framework of SAFE project “Supporting Awareness, Facilitating Enforcement of Children’s Rights in the Yemeni Conflict”.
In his opening remarks, RASD representative stressed the importance of the event aimed at combating impunity by delivering negative messages to violators of children's rights during the armed conflict, and raising awareness of participants and attendees of the importance of local and international laws in protecting human rights and children's rights.
The mock trial session aims to combat impunity and the absence of justice for children by communicating messages to violators of children's rights about the imperative of their accountability, raising awareness among participants about the importance of local and international laws, motivating victims to file their complaints and preserve evidence, and highlighting the humanitarian side of the suffering of child victims and their families.
The trial centered around the cases of sexual violence and child recruitment, by simulating real cases that happened on reality and were monitored and documented by the RASD field monitors and researchers. Where real cases were presented by changing the names of the perpetrators, accused and areas to preserve the safety of victims.
In conclusion, thanks were extended to the presenters, graduates of the Faculty of Law at Taiz University, to the President of the Court of Appeal in Taiz governorate and all those who contributed to the event, stressing the importance of these efforts in lobbying for the protection of children and their reintegration into society.
The event witnessed a great interaction from the attendees, who in turn stressed the importance of such events in spreading awareness and supporting the rights of affected children.
وفي الافتتاح ألقيت كلمة الرئيس التنفيذي لـ«تحالف رصد» مطهر البيذجي، أشار فيها إلى أهمية هذه الفعالية التي تهدف إلى مكافحة الإفلات من العقاب عبر توصيل رسائل سلبية لمنتهكي حقوق الأطفال خلال النزاع المسلح، وتوعية المشاركين والحضور بأهمية القوانين المحلية والدولية في حماية حقوق الإنسان وحقوق الطفل.
وأكد بأن جلسة المحاكمة الصورية تهدف إلى مكافحة الإفلات من العقاب وغياب العدالة للأطفال بتوصيل رسائل لمنتهكي حقوق الأطفال حول حتمية خضوعهم للمساءلة، ورفع الوعي لدى المشاركين بأهمية القوانين المحلية والدولية، وتحفيز الضحايا على تسجيل بلاغاتهم وحفظ الأدلة، وإبراز الجانب الإنساني لمعاناة الضحايا من الأطفال وعائلاتهم.
وتناولت جلسة المحاكمة الأولى التي جسدها طلاب كلية الحقوق بجامعة تعز، قضية "العنف الجنسي"، في حين شملت الجلسة الثانية قضية "تجنيد الأطفال"، وتمحورتا حول قضايا حقيقية حدثت على أرض الواقع، والتي تم رصدها وتوثيقها من قبل فريق «تحالف رصد» حيث تم تقديم قضايا حقيقية بتغيير أسماء الجناة والمتهمين والمناطق للحفاظ على سلامة الضحايا.
وفي اختتام الفعالية، تم توجيه الشكر لمقدمي العرض من خريجي كلية الحقوق بجامعة تعز، ولرئيس محكمة الاستئناف بمحافظة تعز وكل من ساهم في تنفيذ وإنجاح هذه الفعالية، كما تم التأكيد على أهمية هذه الجهود التي ستساهم بصورة كبيرة في الضغط من أجل حماية الأطفال وإعادة إدماجهم في المجتمع.
حضر الفعالية وزير المياه والبيئة الأسبق المهندس عبدالسلام رزاز، ومساعد مدير عام شرطة المحافظة العقيد سمير الاشبط، ونائب مدير عام مكتب حقوق الإنسان أحمد طه المعبقي، وعدد من الناشطين الحقوقيين والإعلاميين وممثلي بعض منظمات المجتمع المدني، والمهتمين.
