Rasd Coalition Condemns Houthi Attacks on the Mokha Port and Civilian Objects on the Western Coast and Calls for Their Protection

The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations (Rasd Coalition) condemns the attacks carried out today, Sunday, 9 August 2026, by the Houthi group using missiles and drones, targeting Mokha city and the commercial port in Taiz Governorate, and striking civilian areas and objects. This dangerous military escalation endangers the lives and safety of civilians.

According to preliminary information monitored by Rasd Coalition and reported by media sources, the Mokha Port was subjected to intensive missile and drone attacks, while residential areas in the city of Mokha were also attacked. Reports indicate casualties, injuries, and material damage to several civilian facilities and properties. This information remains under monitoring and verification.

Rasd Coalition expresses its strong condemnation of the targeting of the Mokha commercial port, as it is a civilian and vital facility that plays an important role in trade, the provision of essential goods and supplies, and serving the population of Taiz Governorate, the western coast, and neighboring areas. The Coalition affirms that targeting economic and civilian facilities or exposing them to attacks exacerbates the already difficult humanitarian and living conditions borne by civilians for years.

Rasd Coalition stresses that all parties to the conflict must at all times respect the rules of international humanitarian law, namely the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution during attacks, as well as distinguishing between civilians and combatants and between civilian objects and military targets. International humanitarian law prohibits directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects, and civilian facilities may not lose their protection except within the limits and conditions established by international humanitarian law.

Rasd Coalition calls on the Houthi group to immediately cease attacks that target civilians and civilian objects or expose them to danger, and to respect its obligations under international humanitarian law.

The Coalition also calls for an independent and transparent investigation into all attacks that resulted in civilian casualties or damage to civilian objects, to identify and held the perpetuators  accountable, and to ensure the right of victims and affected persons to reparation and compensation. It emphasizes that continued impunity contributes to repeated violations and undermines prospects for peace and justice in Yemen.

Rasd Coalition renews its call on the international community, the United Nations, and international human rights mechanisms to intensify efforts to protect civilians, pressure all parties to the conflict to comply with international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and work to prevent further escalation that civilians ultimately pay the highest price for.
