The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations (Rasd Coalition) is following with great concern the ferocious and ongoing arrest campaign launched by the Houthi-run Security and Intelligence Services against several members of the UN, international and local organizations, which included children and women since yesterday, Friday, June 7, 2014.

The escalation of the Houthi group’s repression comes as a continuation of its repressive approach to fighting human rights since it seized power in September 2014, in light of international disregard for these practices and the absence of accountability and due to impunity, which has encouraged it to persist in human rights violations that currently include male and female employees in international and UN organizations, which confirms that the approach of condoning and appeasement of this group increases its crimes and violations of human rights.

Rasd Coalition condemns these violations in the strongest terms, and calls on the Houthi armed group to release the detainees immediately and without any conditions, and to release other abductees and those forcibly disappeared in its prisons, under trumped-up charges and malicious allegations, which have no basis, and come in the context of the frantic quest to eliminate the margins of civic space, which was bulldozed and tampered with for 9 years, and further repression was imposed on freedoms and rights.

We in Rasd Coalition believe that these violations come to divert attention from the political and economic pressures facing the group. Rasd Coalition calls on the international community sponsoring the peace process in Yemen and the United Nations system to exercise their role by pressuring the Houthis to stop committing more violations against civilians. .
